I’ve only been to Farmers’ Markets about a dozen times in my life, if that. It’s not that I have anything against veggies or locally grown food. It’s just a shopping habit I never developed. I’m one of those 20-somethings who dines out more than they cook. My fridge usually has an unhealthy balance of restaurant leftovers and groceries. And despite my best efforts to change to change that, I’m usually lured out to eat by the promise of spending an evening with my girlfriends or a date with my boyfriend.

Lately I’ve been craving a change, and perhaps my body has been craving some homegrown veggies. So for the next 30 days — June 23, 2010 to July 22, 2010 — I plan to eat only food purchased at one of the Triangle’s Farmers’ Markets. The rules may change and bend as time goes on, but I plan to start with the following:

* Everything I eat for these 30 days must be purchased at a Farmers Market.

* I may use existing condiments and spices at my home to give my market meals some flavor. But if I run out of something, I must buy it at the Farmers Market or do without. (For example, I’m making a loaf of banana bread tonight with eggs and bananas I bought at the market today).

* I am not a vegetarian, so meat is totally an option as long as it comes from the Farmers Market.

Along the way I hope to share anecdotes, tips, recipes and the stories of the people I meet. Please feel free to do the same in the comments section.
